Job SummaryThe Risk, Insurance, Strategy, and Energy (RISE) team
helps NiSource make decisions under uncertainty. The team leverages
its integrated capabilities and expertise to deliver comprehensive
analyses and innovative solutions across the enterprise. The
Project Consultant drives segment level initiatives that involve a
variety of cross-functional project teams and members in order to
advance key NiSource strategy. They partner with RISE senior
leadership as well as segment leadership in Electric, Gas or
Corporate in order to address current and future issues facing our
environment across NiSource. They will drive to closure specific
projects related to regulatory strategy, risk, and insurance. They
will maintain an external perspective of industry best
practices.Principal Duties and ResponsibilitiesNote: This position
is accountable for overseeing contractors, third parties and other
internal resources assigned to support initiatives.Strategic
Planning:
- Leads or manages the strategic planning process for segment
(Electric, Gas or Corporate) initiatives and provide an enterprise
wide perspective on the impact of those initiatives to
NiSource
- Develops insightful business analysis that evaluates the
financial, market, and regulatory environments through the lens of
customers and other stakeholders
- Collaborates with senior management leadership to develop
topical content and material for executive and board level
presentations
- Supports scenario analysis centered around impact of industry
uncertainties on NiSource business outlook and assess the viability
of various strategic responsesBusiness Partnering:
- Leads and/or supports cross-functional teams to facilitate deep
dive analyses into high value issues and develops set of actionable
alternatives for decision makers
- Performs analyses to evaluate the opportunity and the risks of
the electric segment capital investments decisions, e.g., in the
context of electric grid modernization investment strategy or
generation transition strategy
- Leverages strategy analysis tools e.g. (SWOT analysis) and
market trends to identify strategies and initiatives to address
desired segment objectivesResearch and Industry Engagement:
- Develops a solid understanding and perspective primarily
through research on major industry trends, and their potential
implications for NiSource
- Collects, analyzes and interprets data to form externally
informed, actionable insights and outlooks that can be used to
support the formulation and refinement of NiSource strategy
- Proactively monitors, tracks, interprets and shares key
industry, regulatory and technology trends to guide leadership in
decision making.Required Qualifications for Position
- Bachelors Degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Engineering
or an equivalent combination of education, training and
experience
- Strong analytic and financial modeling skills, with
understanding of how to link strategies to financial plans and
utilize research and analysis to develop innovative insights and
drive actionable results
- Demonstrates ability to structure, analyze and present decision
focused alternatives
- Demonstrates capacity for critical thinking and problem solving
in ambiguous environments
- Demonstrates ability to see and understand the big picture
- Demonstrates ability to effectively collaborate across
functions
- Demonstrates ability to develop clear and logical
presentations
- Advanced business modeling and decision analysis skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proactive work style and ability to work independently and
manage cross-functional activities with limited oversight
- Solid Understanding of the electric and gas utility industry
trends/challenges, and the regulatory environment
- Travel could be expected between 510%Preferred Additional
Qualifications for Position
- MBA, or similar advanced degree
- CPA, CFA, PE or similar credential is a plus
- Previous experience at a regulated utility
