Veterinary Technician Practicum (VTP- Level II Job)
Veterinary technician practicum assists veterinarians with patient
care and interact with clients. Veterinary Technician Practicums
report to the head or senior technician on duty.
Job Overview
To provide the best patient care and client experience from
check-in to check-out. Ensure the successful work flow of the
floor, treatment, barn, laundry, and kennel areas. Follow doctor,
head and senior technician directives. VTPs are responsible for
completing all responsibilities and duties in a timely manner.
General Expectations
Veterinary technician practicum must possess good critical thinking
and problem-solving skills, empathy and compassion, a positive
attitude, and excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Understand and carry out oral and written directions. Desire to
learn and acceptance of constructive feedback is essential.
Punctuality is expected.
Responsibilities and Duties
? Assist Veterinarians/Senior/Junior Technicians in patient care
and medical treatments including but not limited to: medication
administration, taking x-rays, acquiring laboratory samples,
processing in-house and reference lab samples
? Loading rooms
? Prepare packages for the correct pick-up or deliver to
vendors/boxes.
? Caring for boarding and hospitalized patients including cage
cleaning, exercising, feeding, observation for signs of illness,
laundry, bathing procedures, and keeping animals clean.
? Feeds each animal as prescribed by attending veterinarian.
Records appetite +/- and signs of illness.
? Release animals to their owners as directed by the doctor or
senior technician.
? General cleaning of the public and employee areas of hospitals,
general cleaning of walking areas to maintain a clean, odor-free,
and attractive environment. Housekeeping and laundry duties for all
areas.
? Restrain patients for procedures performed by senior technicians
or doctors.
? Pulling IV catheters when being directed by a doctor or senior
technician
? Measure, prepare, recognize, calculate, dispense and administer
medications and vaccines.
? Maintaining a professional, cheerful, and helpful attitude when
interacting with pet owners.
? Stocking of hospital supplies in house and on farm call
trucks
Requirements:
Qualifications
? High school diploma/GED required
? Must be able to lift 50 pounds,and able to bend, squat, and stand
for extended periods
? At least some experience with animals preferred.
? Must be able to hear animals and read instruments
? Rabies Titers preferred
Knowledge of animal species and breeds is required.
