The Undersea Technology Analysis Group within SPA supports the Navy and other government organizations with analytic studies, timely and objective capability assessments, technology evaluations, and strategic planning that integrate the technical, operational, programmatic, policy, and business aspects of undersea warfare (USW) and broader Navy issues. UTAG provides mature, turnkey products that reflect all of the factors important to decision makers. Our clients are Flag Officers/Senior Executives and others who require robustly integrated support.
SPA has an immediate need for a Military Operations Analyst to support studies for several undersea warfare clients. #CJ #IN123Responsibilities:We will look to you to provide analysis to support SPA's Navy clients, particularly in the area of undersea warfare. SPA uses a wide range of analytical approaches to find rigorous and objective answers to our clients' most difficult national security problems. You will join a strong team of analysts responsible for shaping undersea warfare investments, assessing undersea security and survivability, and identifying desired capabilities for future undersea forces. You will be asked to contribute to mature and meaningful recommendations to SPA's clients that reflect the range of operational and technical factors needed to make informed decisions.
The position involves analysis of future undersea warfare capabilities across a variety of areas. These analyses must consider and integrate a range of factors, to include military utility, technical feasibility, cost, programmatic and policy implications, and business cases. You will need to be a quick learner who is responsible for independently researching and coming up to speed on new and complex topics. You will anticipate and respond to new client needs, including identifying problem areas and opportunities, and considering how SPA should develop new or existing tools or approaches to address them. Common products of your efforts will be briefings, papers, and demonstrations of analytic results to clients that support their decision-making.Qualifications:Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (such as political science, national security studies, international affairs, public policy, military history, science, engineering) and relevant professional experience demonstrating proficiency in these subjects
  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience (an advanced degree may be considered a partial fulfillment of additional years of experience) working in support of the Department of Defense, an armed service, or a related position (such as think tanks, Congressional staff, or federally funded R&D centers)
  • Strong skills in the areas of research, writing, critical thinking, and analysis, as well as excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and the ability to summarize and communicate complex ideas and analytical findings to a variety of audiences Experience directly interacting with, briefing, and advising DoD or armed service decision makers is a plus.
  • The candidate must be a US citizen, and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Candidates will be subject to a security investigation. Already holding a SECRET (or higher) DoD security clearance is a plus.Desired Qualifications:
    • Master's degree and/or direct experience analyzing future capabilities for the armed services, and/or doctrine/warfare concept development is a plus
    • Professional experience that demonstrates familiarity with undersea warfare (such as service as a submarine officer, government civilian, or contractor) or emerging technologies (particularly submarines, unmanned systems, and undersea weapons and payloads)
    • Educational background in modern military operations, military strategy/history, European or Indo-Pacific regional studies, deterrence theory/practice, arms, or related topics
