Overview:The Additive Manufacturing Technician works closely with RapidFlight's Engineering R&D and Prototype groups as part of a world-class aircraft design team. In the role you will maintain awareness and expertise of 3D print technology, material choices as well as related CAD and slicer software suites. As an Additive Manufacturing Technician, you will manage and maintain a variety of 3D printing machines, provide regular maintenance, modification, repairs and be responsible for additive manufacturing consumables (such as material filaments, resins, etc.) forecasting and inventory. Additive Manufacturing Technician is also a key contributor to the broad efforts of the engineering and design teams. As such, you will have opportunity to perform other prototyping and testing work and be invited to learn from other prototyping experts. This may include CNC machining, composites, bonding, jigging, welding, testing of material and assemblies and broad exposure to aircraft development and operations. 3D Printing Technician will advocate for software and equipment updates, improvements, and process changes to best meet the demands of the business and continue innovation within this core discipline.
Qualified applicants must be able to demonstrate basic CAD skills, basic competency in 3D printing, have a technical background with experience and demonstrated excitement for things like model building, robotics, mechanical repairs and be intrigued by the workings of all types of machinery.
Responsibilities:

  • Daily care and feeding of the RapidFlight additive manufacturing print farm. Including daily start and finishing tasks for prints, scheduling of print jobs and real-time debugging to maintain machine efficiency and use rate.
  • Develop and maintain print farm/workshop safety standards & practices
  • Research and study emerging additive manufacturing technology, methods, machines and materials to better guide capital investment and overall engineering methods
  • Maintain and stock consumables related to the print farm
  • Help in other prototyping & testing efforts within the R&D shop
  • Contribute to development of Intellectual property and participate in efforts to patent new ideas and processes.
  • Advocate for Software and equipment updates, improvements, and process changes to best meet the demands of the business and customers
    Need to Have:
    • Hands-on work-with-your-hands aptitude and "figure-it-out" attitude
    • High School Diploma/GED with vocational electives taken
      Nice to Have:
      • Professional experience in an R&D, Prototyping environment, Aerospace a plus.
      • Experience with a wide range of Additive Manufacturing methods and materials
      • Professional experience in structural testing
