Help us help those who need the most help & _*apply today*_!*Sign on Bonus & relocation assistance eligible.*_Inova's hospitals are consistently recognized by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals and Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades for excellence in healthcare.__We are proud to be named one of Forbes' 2022 Best Employers for Women, #11 of 5,000+ facilities on NurseJournal's national 2023 Best Places to Work as a Nurse list, and a Top Performer in the 2022 Healthcare Equality Index for LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality._*Featured benefits:** Tuition reimbursement* Student loan assistance - up to $10,000!* Paid parental leave* Retirement benefits with match from day one* State-of-the-art medical and training facilities*Position summary & responsibilities:** Performs and/or provides scrub assistance during procedures that reflect an awareness of anatomy, necessary principles, skills, supplies, and adequate knowledge base.* Assists the circulating nurse in implementing the perioperative plan of care to include: patient positioning, confirmation/preparation of the operative site, updating physician preference card, care of operative specimens, and room turnover.* Identifies factors relative to the patient's age and developmental stage that must be considered during the surgical procedure.* Assists with pulling cases and checks case carts for completeness, obtains supplies and equipment, and determines them to be in good working order before a case begins.* Prepares the operating room by opening sterile supplies, instruments, and sutures based on the scheduled procedure and surgeon preference card.* Follows policies for scrubbing, gowning, gloving, setting up the back table, draping, and counting with the circulating nurse.* Exercises care in the operation and use of instruments/equipment/ and reports/follow the appropriate procedure for broken items.* Follows OSHA and hospital infection control policies at all times.* Maintains continuing education by complying with mandatory re-orientation yearly and keeps educational profile up to date.* Anticipates the needs of the surgeon, which includes passing instruments, sutures, and other items appropriate to the procedure.* Establishes and maintains an organized sterile field. Adheres to unit-specific standards, policies, and procedures for aseptic technique.* Selects proper sterilization method of instruments/equipment; sterilizes before procedures, as necessary, and verifies instruments as sterile.* Takes corrective action when any unsafe practice, conditions, or breaks in aseptic technique occur and reports information to the circulating nurse.* May perform additional duties as assigned*Position Requirements:** *Certification *- BLS upon start, with the American Heart Association.* *Licensure* - Registered Surgical Technologist in Virginia.* *Education* - High School diploma or equivalent._*About Us *_We are Inova, Northern Virginia's leading nonprofit healthcare provider.
