This position will tutor NOVA students and provide administrative
and clerical support for the Manassas Tutoring Center.
Duties and Tasks:
The tutor will do the following:
* Provide academic support and assistance, outside the classroom
environment through one-on-one, and group tutoring.
* Perform paper reviews (if providing liberal arts tutoring).
* Provides front-line administrative and clerical support.
* Furthers the organizational mission and promote enhanced
academics at NOVA.
* Applies knowledge of the content area or subject material to
support NOVA students.
* Applies knowledge of instructional methods for adult
learners.
The tutor will also be expected to provide administrative,
outreach, and clerical support to the Tutoring Center including
Navigate (scheduling) and SmarterTrack (communication)
coverage.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be
required to assist the agency or state government generally in the
event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
Required KSAs:
* Demonstrated knowledge of a specific academic area.
* Strong oral and written communication skills.
* Ability to work with a diverse population of students.
* Knowledge of various learning preferences.
Minimum Qualifications:
* High School diploma
* B or better in coursework tutored.
* Availability to work flexible hours, including some evenings
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
* Associate's degree.
* Proficiency with MS Office.
* Previous experience working as a tutor.
* Previous experience working in higher education.
