based in Manassas 1. SENIOR RESEARCH ASSOCIATE JOB PURPOSE: The
Research Associate is responsible for developing advanced concepts
and prototypes for the Laser Radar Product. Skill in configuring
laboratory testing for concept evaluation is mandatory. Work will
include design and evaluation of optical and fiber optic assemblies
such as lensing systems and interferometers. Work also includes
assembly, testing and system integration of optical,
electro-optical and fiber optical components as well as data
collection and documentation. Evaluation and testing of signal
processing algorithms and techniques are also required. This role
also is involved in helping to manage the Intellectual Property of
the product including developing new patents for the product. 2.
SENIOR RESEARCH ASSOCIATE KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY: --- Design,
testing and prototyping of laser and optical assemblies for Laser
Radar products. --- Optical modeling and tolerancing analysis. ---
Laser Radar production and service support. --- Troubleshooting
optical assemblies. --- Documentation of assembly procedures. ---
DMR investigation. --- IP documentation and support. --- Procedural
support. --- Assist in the management of the photonics development
team. 3. ANCILLARY RESPONSIBILITIES --- Mathematical
modeling/signal processing. --- Production support as needed. 4.
SENIOR RESEARCH ASSOCIATE QUALIFICATIONS Essential --- MS degree in
Electrical, Mechanical, Optical Engineering or Physics. --- Ability
to read schematics and mechanical drawings. --- Ability to develop
test procedures. --- Good communication and presentation skills.
--- Good technical writing skills. --- Full professional
proficiency in English, written and spoken. --- Proficiency with
Matlab. Desirable --- Experience with design, development and/or
manufacturing of optical components and/or systems. --- Experience
with coherent optical systems. --- Experience with optical
characterization/metrology tools and setups. --- Experience in the
field of Laser Radar/Lidar with preference to FMCW Coherent Laser
Radar. --- Experience in Algorithm development. --- Experience in
Digital Signal Processing. 5. COMPETENCIES A) Senior Research
Associate Functional Competencies --- Proficiency with optical
design software for both design and analysis. --- Ability to use
optical measurement equipment such as alignment telescopes,
autocollimators, interferometers, polarimeters and phase measuring
devices. --- Ability to use DVMs, oscilloscopes, signal generators,
spectrum analyzers and recorders/data loggers. --- Ability to
observe, monitor, collect and record data. Ability to assess the
accuracy, validity and integrity of the data. --- Strong background
in mathematics and/or computational geometry. --- Good verbal and
written communication skills. --- Fundamental understanding of the
physics of coherent optical systems. --- Fundamental understanding
of building photonic components for Laser Radar Lidar systems with
preference to Linear FM Chirp Laser Radar. --- Fundamental
understanding of the design of high precision mechanical devices.
--- Understanding of the patent process to the level to assist in
the management of the patent portfolio. --- Ability to recommend
quality, productivity, and cost reduction improvements. --- Ability
to train production personnel. --- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook,
Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel. --- Ability to learn and
capably use specialized manufacturing and engineering applications
