Seasonal Aquatic Camp Counselor Overview In pursuit of service excellence the Seasonal Aquatic Camp Counselor provides an energetic camp environment while demonstrating a joy of interacting with children in safe and reassuring environment. This position will provide swimming instruction as a crucial development tool for campers as well as an exceptional participant experience fostering a happy and engaged camp environment. What You Should Bring Each member of our team is accountable for the outstanding delivery of services to the community. You will work to meet the needs of our community. To be successful as a Seasonal Aquatic Camp Counselor, you will bring a high level of responsibility, decisiveness, and upbeat nature while giving campers a fun, safe camp experience. You will be organized and possess strong leadership skills. You will have the support of and work under the direction of the Recreation Coordinator and/or Recreation Manager. The hours will vary Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm with special events outside of standard business hours. The Opportunity Attends all staff trainings and meetings; Effectively communicate with supervisor, staff and campers; Knows how to work effectively with all levels of swimmers and encourage campers to grow, while appropriately stretching their comfort zone; Monitors activity of campers in the pool, locker rooms, pool deck, and all areas campers might convene; Observes and enforces pool rules and regulations; Organizes the set up and break down of necessary equipment and materials needed for instructional programs and activities at the beginning and end of camp day and season; Promotes good personal relationships, teaches planned activities, and stays alert to potential health or safety dangers to campers; Responds to customer questions and concerns in a positive and professional matter; Responsible for the health and safety of the campers; tends to participants in events and activities; conducts hourly head counts throughout the day and in accordance with the Aqua Camp policy; Safely escort children to and from activities; Supports the Recreation Coordinator/ Recreation Manager in the planning and leading camp activities; Teaches instructional swim lessons using the American Red Cross Learn to Swim curriculum; Performs related work as required. The Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities received national accreditation from the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA). National accreditation requires park and recreation agencies to meet 155 standards representing elements of effective and efficient park and recreation operations. Minimum & Additional Requirements High School Diploma or GED; one year of experience as a Recreation Leader II, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. First Aid training, valid driver's license issued by state of residence. Small Pool Manager: possession of a valid Red Cross or comparable Senior Life Saving and Swimming Pool Operator's Certificate. Assistant Pool Manager: (Large Pool) same as for a Small Pool Manager, plus two years swimming pool experience, and the ability to perform routine maintenance/repair work on pool equipment. Preferred Qualifications Red Cross WSI certification Notes This position requires successful completion of a criminal records background check and drug screening prior to employment.
