JOB SUMMARY/OVERVIEW The Principal Software Engineer reports to the Manager of Software Development for strategic projects, and works closely with program management to ensure successful operational deployment of new applications while maintaining business continuity of existing applications. This is a hands-on technical role, providing the opportunity to build a top class RESTFul Web Services for distributed systems using standard open source technologies and to build out a state of the art Human Resources, Payroll, and Benefits services delivery platform. The ideal person is highly self-motivated, hardworking, innovative, and proactive in finding solutions.

  • Perform technical oversight and assessment of application and system development projects to ensure technical integrity and compliance with design requirements
  • Work closely with Program Manager and other partners to develop project plans, and participates in resource planning
  • Own application development focusing on middle tier using Spring MVC Web Services.
  • Work with multi-disciplinary agile teams to provide end user solutions.
  • Design, develop, test, document, and maintain current and next generation software applications.
  • Assist in the architecture, development and integration of software components into fully functional software systems.
  • Write unit tests to ensure all business requirements are met and software meets the quality standards.
  • Practice agile development methodology and project management skills.
  • Demonstrate professional work ethics, eager to learn and deliver, flexibility with changing priorities, and a standout colleague. Education: Bachelors degree; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Training Requirements (licenses, programs, or certificates):
    • A minimum of 10 years of experience in Java/J2EE development building large-scale enterprise web applications.
    • Hands on experience and understanding of software engineering principles and object-oriented programming & design concepts.
    • Incumbent should have demonstrable knowledge of these technologies and frameworks:
    • Frontend:
    • Angular or related UI frameworks.
    • HTML5, CSS, JSON, JavaScript, jQuery, Bootstrap, react (nice to have)
    • Backend:
    • Java (preferred) or any other Object-Oriented programming language.
    • Knowledge of J2EE / JEE, web-services, soap, rest APIs
    • Database:
    • RDBMS such as MySQL, Oracle, Postgres
    • Knowledge of NoSQL
    • Knowledge of ERP systems such as PeopleSoft
    • Design & Architecture:
    • Multi-tier architectural design patterns such as model-view-controller
    • Micro-services architecture
    • Development Tools:
    • IDEs such as Eclipse, SQL Developer, SOAP UI
    • Debugging tools such as chrome developer tools
    • Development Methodologies:
    • Agile, iterative development, SCRUM
    • Collaboration tools:
    • SVN or Git
    • Familiarity with Atlassian tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
      • Solid understanding of data integration technologies and processes and Solid knowledge of testing tools and techniques
      • Knowledge of secure coding standards and best practice
      • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to clearly articulate to all project members and partners through written documentation
      • Must take initiative, be a critical decision-maker and show confidence in decisions made and be able to see tasks through to completion without significant guidance
      • Must be a team player who works well with technical and non-technical resources
