ECS is seeking a SQL Database Administrator to work in our Dahlgren, VA office. Job Description: ECS has an opportunity for a Customer Support Manager to support an information system program for a DoD client based in Dahlgren, VA. This position requires a minimum active Top-Secret DoD clearance. The Program: The SQL Database Administrator will be part of a team of experts charged with providing support in the areas of cyber analysis and cyber development capabilities in response to Navys and DoDs needs for Cyber Situational Awareness (SA), Cyber Command and Control (C2), Mission Assurance, and Homeland Defense. Program scope includes identifying cyber key terrain by analyzing operational requirements, conducting cyber analyses and assessments, and developing and performing modeling and simulation in support of different cyber threat scenarios. The team will conduct cyber analyses and assessments to identify potential vulnerabilities and risks, determine mission and operational impacts, and make appropriate mitigation recommendations. Additionally, program support includes developing methodology and framework in support of cyber risk assessment life cycle. Our team will provide capabilities to support the customer with rapid design, development, test, deployment, maintenance and operation of specific software and hardware capabilities to meet current Cyber Defensive needs. The Role: As a SQL Database Administrator on this program, you will use your expertise and experience in the following areas and activities to deliver solutions and services to our customer:

  • Responsible for maintaining a Windows Server and RHEL Server based SQL Server environment, overseeing the implementation, configuration, security, maintenance, and performance of SQL Server RDBMS systems, as well as ensuring the availability and performance of enterprise applications.
  • Maintain SQL database objects and perform database capacity planning, data modeling, data loads, troubleshooting, database backup and recovery and support onsite applications.
  • Manage SQL Server databases through multiple product life-cycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems
  • Experienced with SQL Availability Groups and Windows Failover Clustering in Windows environments as well as running databases in containers and Kubernetes in High Availability configurations; experience with SQL Server Graph preferred.
  • Experienced with cloud based hosting environments such as Amazon AWS and Microsoft Azure desired
  • Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security
  • Ensure development and implementation support efforts meet integration and performance expectations
  • Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end
  • Script automation utilizing PowerShell and TSQL in Windows environments as well as scripting in BASH in RHEL environments.
  • Manage database structures by monitoring and adjusting the internal structures (tuning) as required
  • Defines, establishes and performs regular backups of databases, index reorganizations and database consistency checks
  • Involvement in planning, designing, creating, installing, customization, upgrades and maintaining of databases to meet defined requirements
  • Perform upgrades of the database and software to new release levels
  • Documents databases and deployed applications
  • Perform Database Security implementation and documentation
  • Create and maintain reports and forms
  • Ensure databases are compliant with applicable STIGS

    • US Citizens and must have an active Top-Secret DoD clearance, SCI eligible
    • High School Diploma
    • DoD 8570.01-T Information Assurance Technology (IAT) Level II certification(s) required to work on government IT systems to include one of the following: CCNA Security, GICSP, GSEC, CompTIA Security+ CE, SSCP or higher level certification
    • Must hold current (or acquire within 6 months) the appropriate operating system certification for information assurance technical positions as required by DoD 8570.01-T to include any of the following: o MCSA: SQL 2016/2019 Business Intelligence Development o MCSA: SQL 2016/2019 Database Administration o MCSA: SQL 2016/2019 Database Development o MCSA: SQL Server 2016/2019 o MCSA: Machine Learning o Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE): Data Platform (retired)
      • Strong systems & software engineering and/or database administration process background
      • Experience with implementing STIGS on MS SQL Server
      • Experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), monitoring and troubleshooting tools
      • Experience with VMware, SQL Availability Groups, and Windows Failover Clustering
      • Experience with SQL backup and recovery
      • Knowledge of High Availability (HA) & Disaster Recovery (DR) for SQL Server
      • Experience with Windows Server 2016 and 2019, including Active Directory
      • Understanding of network architecture
      • Strong application support experience
