Job Description Summary Reporting to the Chief Equity Officer and the Director of Human Resources, the DEI/HR Coordinator serves as program support, liaison, and coordinator for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and HR special projects. This highly visible position works collaboratively with county departments to support positive change and outcomes for all in the equity field. This position supports the Chief Equity Officer in all areas of programming to include training, provides administrative support, and serves as the coordinator for County equity action coalitions and affinity groups throughout the County government. The incumbent will also work with the HR Director on special projects and track data on programs for DEI and HR for goal attainment. The incumbent makes decisions under the guidance of the subject matter expert and within policies and procedures. Essential Job Functions Coordinates and chairs government wide equity action coalition meetings and activities Collaborates with departments to establish and support departmental equity action coalitions Coordinates and conducts DEI training on a variety of topics to include but not limited to awareness and understanding of equity-related concepts and use of equity tools Conducts impact analyses utilizing evidence and data to recommend improvements to positively affect outcomes for historically marginalized populations Supports the analyses of proposed legislation, regulations, policies, etc. and provides input on equity issues affecting county programs and practices Contributes positively to DEI and HR programming by submitting and implementing innovative ideas as approved Serves as the special projects coordinator for HR initiatives as assigned Tracks data and metrics for all programs under the auspices of the HR Department Measures performance data against goal attainment Remains up to date on the most effective methods for equity work Coordinates, participates in, and contributes to cross departmental meetings as assigned Supports recruitment and retention efforts as assigned by handling full life cycle of recruitments as assigned by the Director and tracking recruitment related data. Provides administrative support to the Chief Equity Officer Travel to other County locations or off-site meetings and trainings Performs other related job duties as assigned Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Education and Experience: 3-5 years of experience in program coordination relevant to the field of work. Bachelor's Degree in a related field preferred. Licenses or Certifications: Must possess a valid driver's license. HR and/or DEI certification is a plus. Special Requirements/Qualifications: Must possess ability to maintain information confidentially. Work is subject to frequent interruptions and inflexible deadlines. Employee may be required to attend evening and weekend meetings. This position is required to receive climate competency training level 1. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of principles and best practices of diversity, equity and inclusion in both workplace and community settings Knowledge of labor laws and employment best practices Knowledge of processes and procedures associated with development and implementation of organization wide programs Knowledge of program and project management Skill in business writing to include editing and proofreading Skill in effective communication in all settings Ability to be a change agent and influence others Ability to be a risk taker who inspires innovation, learning and success by modeling effective leadership behavior Ability to build networks and rapport with internal and external customers. Ability to work independently, prioritize work, and independently manage multiple and competing priorities while meeting deadlines. Ability to conduct research and identify solutions to problems. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to learn Charles County Government operations, policies, and procedures. Ability to support the development of policies, procedures and guidelines that produce positive outcomes for marginalized populations. Additional Information PHYSICAL DEMANDS The work is mostly sedentary with periods of light physical activity and requires the employee to sit for long periods; lift and carry up to 20 pounds; climb stairs, bend, reach, hold, grasp and turn objects; and use fingers to operate computer or typewriter keyboards. The work requires the ability to speak normally and clearly and to use normal or aided vision and hearing. WORK ENVIRONMENT Principal duties of this job are performed in a general office environment.
