Mission or Goal of Unit:The Department of Anesthesiology is committed to delivering the best possible anesthetic and critical care to our patients, advancing research and quality improvement in anesthesiology and perioperative medicine, and training the next generation of anesthesiologists through residency and fellowship programs, along with medical student teaching.Chief Purpose of this Position:The Department seeks a candidate who will provide care to patients at VCU Health as assigned by the Department Chair or Chair's delegate. Virginia Commonwealth University, Department of Anesthesiology, is seeking an accomplished academic anesthesiologist to serve as Division Chief of Pediatric Anesthesiology. We are looking for a nationally recognized academic leader with outstanding clinical skills, excellence in education and research, and a strong commitment to clinical operations and patient access optimization. Proven leadership skills to inspire, manage, and develop faculty and staff, along with skills in interdepartmental collaboration and consensus building, are required. This individual will report to the Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology and the Physician in Chief of Surgery. The candidate will be responsible for all aspects of the Department of Anesthesiology and the Children's Hospital of Richmond mission related to pediatric anesthesiology, including clinical care, education, research, and administration. Responsibilities include pre-anesthetic evaluation, intraoperative care, postoperative rounds, resuscitation and intensive care, nerve blocks, and consultation in chronic pain cases. The role also involves directing the activities of nurse anesthetists as assigned.Position Responsibilities:

• Teaching: Develop and enhance educational programs supporting learning and practice. Provide bedside clinical teaching to residents, medical students, nurse anesthetists, and others. Participate in departmental didactic programs, attend conferences, rounds, and staff meetings as required.
• Research: Lead innovative scholarship in Pediatric Anesthesia. Establish benchmarks for success and criteria for excellence in scholarly activities.
• Service: Serve on departmental, School of Medicine, University, or VCU Health System committees as requested. Promote community service and being a good institutional citizen.
• Clinical: Develop a vision for continuous improvement in perioperative outcomes. Provide leadership in clinical operations at VCU School of Medicine and VCU Health, including clinical anesthesiology care and supervision of CRNAs as appropriate.Required Qualifications:

• MD or DO degree
• ABA Board eligible/certified in Anesthesiology
• Unrestricted medical licensure in Virginia
• Eligibility for employment in the United States
• Leadership experience in an academic anesthesiology department
• Strong communication, clinical, and teaching skills
