International (Mondel--z) is looking for a Public and Government
Affairs (PGA) Senior Manager to join its DC-based Global PGA team.
In this role, you will advocate for Mondel--z's interests, enhance
its reputation, and engage policy makers and influencers to shape
government measures and initiatives material to its business.
Mondel--z empowers people to snack right in over 150 countries
around the world. We are leading the future of snacking with iconic
brands such as Oreo, LU, Tate's Bake Shop, and Ritz biscuits;
Cadbury Dairy Milk, Milka, and Toblerone chocolate; Swedish Fish
and Sour Patch Kids sugar confectionery; and Clif and Grenade
energy bars.
Overarching RoleSupport Mondel--z's Vice President for Global PGA
and partner with:
- Other members of the Global PGA team,
- Business (BU) Corporate and Government Affairs (CGA) teams in
multiple regions, and
- other functions and sub-functions (e.g., Communications,
Finance, Tax, Legal, Scientific and Regulatory Affairs, Nutrition,
Impact/Sustainability, and Insights and Analytics).Help develop and
execute the global PGA annual and longer-term plan, including
through:
- close collaboration with local CGA teams,
- multimarket projects, and
- global assets, aimed at advancing the company's advocacy
priorities.
- Represent Mondel--z and articulate its policy positions
externally.Specific Responsibilities
Policy/Political Foresight and InsightAnticipate the direction of
travel of government policy relevant to Mondel--z's business in
markets across the globe by tracking and analyzing:
- geopolitical developments,
- public discourse (media reports and dialogue in trade
associations, think tanks, and conferences), and
- guidance, standards, steers from international organizations
(e.g., World Health Organization and Codex Alimentarius).Understand
the content and impact on Mondel--z of government measures in three
priority policy areas:1. nutrition, health, and well-being
(government rules aimed at curbing consumption of certain types of
foods):
- restrictions on marketing/advertising, placement, promotion, or
sale, targeted indirect taxes,
- front-of-pack nutrition labeling requirements, and additive
restrictions,2. sustainability:
- ESG (environment, social, governance) disclosure mandates,
- supply chain due diligence requirements,
- labor- and environment-related market access restrictions,
and
- taxes, bans, extended producer responsibility schemes on
plastic packaging waste,3. license to operate:
- cross-border trade measures, including tariffs,
- taxes,
- price controls,
- boycotts,
- sanctions and countersanctions,
- investment incentives, and
- labor disciplines.Advocacy Direction and External
EngagementFrame Mondel--z's corporate position on key government
measures by drafting global policy position papers and aligning
their content internally across functions.Advance local CGA teams'
PGA work programs, including by:
- ensuring clarity of annual and longer-term goals on priority
measures,
- helping to draft submissions to governments on proposed
measures, and
- sharing techniques and best practices for shaping government
initiatives and measures across BUs.Advocate on Mondel--z's PGA
priorities through engagements with policy makers and influencers:
- Executive officials and legislators,
- international organization officials, and
- thought leaders in think tanks and other expert bodies.Enhance
Mondel--z's visibility and reputation through active participation
and leadership in:
- trade associations,
- business coalitions,
- professional organizations, and
- other fora.Internal Networks and ProgrammingDevelop programming
for, and participate and present in internal networks, including:
- Global PGA Community of Practice,
- cross-functional working groups, and
- Global PGA team's regular connects with BU CGA leads.PGA
Enablers and Multimarket Projects
- Fashion global assets (e.g., playbooks, tool kits, templates,
and methodologies) to enable PGA work at local level.
- Design and drive multimarket PGA projects (workstreams with
clearly defined missions and/or deliverables applicable in multiple
BUs).Presentations and Other Written Materials
- Develop PowerPoint presentations, including for senior leaders
and multicultural teams.
- Draft internal policy alerts, background papers, and talking
points.Qualifications and Skills
- At least ten years of government (public sector) and/or
government affairs (private sector) work experience.
- Graduate degree in international relations, business, law,
nutrition, and/or economic or sustainability policy.
- Knowledge of policy issues relevant to the food industry.
- Ability to operate independently and determine "the how" when
given direction on "the what" (desired result).
- Facility in managing multiple projects simultaneously,
prioritizing, and delivering high quality results.
- Excellent distillation and communication skills (written and
verbal).
- Collaborative and proactive way of working, good people skills,
and "can-do" attitude.
- Experience working with colleagues from a variety of cultures
and in cross-functional teams.
- Facility with PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, and Excel.The base
salary range for this position is $137,300 to $188,825; the exact
salary depends on several factors such as experience, skills,
education, and budget. In addition to base salary, this position is
eligible for participation in a highly competitive bonus program
with possibility for overachievement based on performance and
company results.In addition, Mondelez International offers the
following benefits: health insurance, wellness and family support
