World Hope International (WHI) is a global, faith-based relief and development organization operating in 12 countries, including an affiliate fundraising entity in Canada. Job Purpose: As WHI continues a trajectory of growth and scale, with the vision to serve 2 million people per year by 2026, we are hiring a Director of Strategic Engagement to meaningfully engage with WHI's mission. This person has the opportunity to meaningfully engage donors in our work, showing how their joyful financial partnership can bring opportunity to thousands. WHI is seeking a skilled networker with a bold approach to relationship building with high-net-worth individuals and foundations, and the ability to convert those relationships to financial gifts. The Director of Strategic Engagement will have a leading role in communicating the mission of WHI and its work around the world with the purpose of deepening and expanding the financial engagement of individuals and foundations with WHI. This person will plan and implement a comprehensive program for major gifts, planned gifts, and annual giving from individuals/families and private foundations. The successful director will raise $750,000+ in their first year and 20% more each subsequent year. The position requires approximately 30% travel which is primarily domestic with regular visits to WHI's Alexandria, VA headquarters. International travel will also be required. Essential Functions: 11. Facilitate deeper engagement with current donors:

  • Cultivate relationships with existing major donors to increase funding levels and develop relationships with other individuals and foundations, resulting in new major donors to WHI.
  • Carry an average portfolio of 120 major donors and conduct over 15 meaningful interactions with donors per month.
  • Assist the CDO and other marketing and development staff in planning and executing fund-raising strategies that match organizational priorities with potential contributors.
    • Plan, implement, and evaluate fund-raising activities in order to meet short- and long-range goals and objectives.
    • Collaborate with the development and marketing/communications teams to plan fundraising/educational events and vision trips.
    • Assist and evaluate programs to recognize, thank and educate current donors in an exceptional way.
    • Work in partnership with the Church Partnership Director to advance WHI's strategy for a deeper and more holistic engagement of churches.
    • Maintain strong positive relationships with all World Hope International constituencies-internal and external--to enhance support for and understanding of development programs.
    • Maintain records in the Customer Relations Management (CRM) system, Blackbaud. 2. Deepen new donor acquisition strategy:
      • In collaboration with CEO, Board Members, and Strategic Engagement Directors, develop, implement and evaluate strategies to significantly broaden and deepen the base of support from major donors across the US.
      • Implement and evaluate strategies to improve WHI's capacity to engage lapsed donors.
      • Work with the CDO and CEO to develop strategies to identify and attract impact driven donors to WHI's social ventures.
        • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred.
        • 5-7 years or more experience in fund-raising solicitation and management, preferably in NGOs.
        • Track record of annually bringing in over $500,000 from major donors (or sales equivalent).
        • Personal characteristics associated with successful fundraisers including a sound work ethic, well-developed verbal and written communication skills, high professional and ethical standards, demonstrated initiative, and excellent planning and evaluation skills.
        • Familiarity with prospect research and management programs, and with computer-based fund-raising information systems and social media.
        • Experience regularly utilizing and updating a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.
        • Flexibility to travel, the majority of which will be domestic. Weekend and evening work will be necessary.
        • Proven ability to effectively develop, nurture and maintain individual relationships and the skill to lead those individuals to make joyful financial investments.
        • Experience speaking to high potential clients and donors effectively, intelligently, and passionately.
        • Demonstrated experience managing major donor relationships with a high level of independence.
        • Experience managing, tracking, and reporting on the financial efforts for a region.
        • Capacity to accurately and objectively evaluate the effectiveness and outcomes of programs and to make appropriate adjustments.
        • Experience in planning and executing special events to cultivate prospective donors within defined budgetary and programmatic guidelines.
        • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, setting organizational goals, and establishing agendas within a leadership team.
        • Highly organized, able to set priorities and meet objectives.
        • Strong interpersonal skills and experience working on a multicultural team.
        • Ability to create and nurture productive working partnerships internally and externally.
        • Proficient computer skills - especially the Microsoft Suite of applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint).
        • Commitment to the values and mission of WHI.
        • Supportive of the Wesleyan-Arminian heritage of WHI and its church-related network.
        • Familiarity with church structure and operation. Knowledge of The Wesleyan Church's history and background is highly desirable.
        • Demonstrate belief in the Apostle's Creed. Working Environment / Conditions: Standard office environment. Hybrid office/remote possible. Domestic and international travel required (up to 30% of the time).
