The Executive Director in partnership with the Board of Directors, is responsible and accountable for the overall success of the Global Business Travel Association (GBTA). Together, the Board and Executive Director assure GBTA?s relevance to the community (its membership), the accomplishment of GBTA?s mission and vision, and the accountability of GBTA to its diverse constituents. The Board delegates responsibility for management and day-to-day operations to the Executive Director, and s/he has the authority to carry out these responsibilities, in accordance with the direction and policies established by the Board. The Executive Director provides direction and enabling to the Board as it carries out its governance functions. The Executive Director is responsible for implementation of policies set by the Board of Directors and the GBTA Strategic Plan, as well as the financial, program, and administrative management of the association and the GBTA staff team.-- The Executive Director manages, designs, implements, and coordinates policies and procedures relating to the administration of operational management duties, marketing and public speaking opportunities, financial controls and policies, oversight of staff team and information systems. Key Responsibilities The Executive Director will oversee the following responsibilities and work closely with direct reports to monitor the progress of key programs and operations activities. Strategy and Planning In collaboration with the Board of Directors and staff, develops, plans, and implements strategies, objectives, programs, and initiatives that deliver on GBTA?s mission of being the leading source of business travel knowledge worldwide through education, research, networking and advocacy delivered on demand-- Regularly reviews the strategic plan and reports progress to ensure that priorities and resources align. Focus on enhancing GBTA?s reputation as the go-to organization within the business travel industry and evaluate GBTA?s relevance to the community, its effectiveness, and its results. Develops the financial 3 year rolling plan for GBTA and gain agreement and approval from the Board of Directors. Deliver the strategic and operational financial plan through management of the GBTA staff and personal influence. Help the Board determine GBTA?s values, mission, vision, and short- and long-term goals ensuring relevance to the GBTA stated goals. Keeps the Board fully informed on the commercial status of GBTA and on all the important factors influencing it. Governance Collaborates with the Board of Directors to oversee the process related to elections, appointments and leadership training. Oversee operations, organization, communication, and administration of the Board meetings. Helps the Board articulate its own role and accountabilities and that of its chapters, committees and individual members, and helps evaluate performance regularly. Works with the President to enable the Board to fulfil its governance functions and facilitates the optimum performance by the Board, its committees and individual Board members. Reports to the board monthly with detailed commercial information allowing them to carry out their governance responsibilities. With the Board President, focuses Board attention on long-range strategic issues. Manages the Board?s due diligence process to assure timely attention to core issues. Build strategic alignment of international chapters. Communications, Public Relations and Partnerships Develops and oversees membership engagement models that respond to the needs of a diverse profession and promote membership growth and retention and encourages co-operation and best practice amongst regions. Facilitates the integration of GBTA into the fabric of the global business travel community by using effective marketing and communications activities. Serves as a key internal and external spokesperson for GBTA, in conjunction with the President, speaking for the Association to the media and public. Oversees efforts to enhance organizational visibility and awareness, including further efforts to develop relationships with relevant partner organizations. Responsible for ensuring regular and ongoing communications with leadership and membership. Willingness to be engaged in periodic evening conference calls, committee meetings that are held over several weekends each year and attending all major GBTA events in the U.S., Canada, Europe and Mexico with particular focus on the Annual Convention. Attends and where possible speaks at appropriate industry events on behalf of GBTA, to optimize the awareness of GBTA with a view to being the voice of the corporate travel community ? through PR, speaker opportunities, lobbying and senior decision maker networking Create effective listening strategies for the membership, in order to improve services and generate member involvement. Assures membership awareness of GBTA?s response to membership needs. Initiates, develops, and maintains cooperative relationships with partners and sometimes competitors to meet mutually beneficial goals and objectives for the association. Finance and Legal Compliance Accountable for financial stability, as well as regular reporting to the Board and/or Finance Committee. Works with staff to develop and propose an annual organizational budget for Board of Directors approval.-- Identifies and recommends non-dues revenue opportunities to the Board for implementation. Driving revenue through increased membership, sponsorship and any other innovative product and service developments. Cost Management through careful resource planning and continual monitoring and benchmarking of expenditure. Oversees the fiscal activities of the organization including budgeting, reporting and audit. Works with the Board to ensure financing to support short- and long-term goals. Through effective market connection, understand the key market trends and issues and translate those into effective actions to ensure opportunity is seized and risks mitigated. Assures the filing of all legal and regulatory documents and monitors compliance with relevant laws and regulations.? Staff Management and Operations Responsible for the hiring, management, mentoring and development of all GBTA staff. May consult on the hiring and management of staff partially allocated to the GBTA team via shared services, in such areas as creative services, events management or operations support. Collaborates with staff, Board of Directors and member volunteers; oversees and manages the development and execution of policy goals and tactics aligned with the strategic plan. Oversees day-to-day operations and is responsible for establishing and implementing operating and financial objectives, policies, procedures, and reporting. Responsible for all association activities and ensures that they are properly conducted and accounted for to the Board of Directors. Ensures a work environment that recruits, nurtures, retains, and supports quality staff and volunteers. Assures process for selecting, development, motivating, and evaluating staff and volunteers so as to attain high performance levels. Leads the development of content in collaboration with the staff, board of directors and other volunteers and experts for GBTA education, events, and resources. Strategic marketing plan including product development, price setting and promotion through all channels (digital and traditional). Oversees staff to manage all service providers to GBTA including, but not limited to IT, legal, HR, and events logistics. Advocacy Monitors federal agencies and policy issues to ensure a proactive role in influencing policy or legislation that could affect GBTA, its members and the industry. Encourages and leverages, with appropriate resources, member engagement in advocacy efforts aligned with GBTA goals. Oversees development of GBTA communications strategies related to advocacy matters. Acts as an advocate, within the public and private sectors, for issues relevant to GBTA, its services and membership. Represents the voice of the global business travel community. Events, Professional Learning and Development Engages volunteers and staff to oversee the development of learning resources, tools and activities to enhance the membership?s expertise and practice. Reviews professional development programs and activities considering current and future trends. Works with volunteer leaders and staff to ensure the success of all events including in-person, virtual or hybrid conferences. Key Skills and Abilities Effective communicator and public speaker, presenting to large audiences, being a key note speaker at third party industry events. Gravitas and the ability to be the face of GBTA, representing the GBTA brand. The ability to work with partners who may also compete with GBTA in certain areas. Measuring Success: One Year In The Executive Director will be required to submit an annual draft of operating objectives for review and approval of the Board. Included in this draft will be goals for: Resetting Association values and mission. Retaining and increasing membership, including increasing member awareness of and engagement with Association activities. Ensuring the Annual Convention continues to be the premier event for service providers, suppliers, and other participants, including increasing the number of attendees and exhibitors, and that the Annual Convention meets financial objectives. Increasing Association gross revenues through growth in attendance and exhibition at the Annual Convention and meetings, in membership, and in other activities; Ensuring the Association engages in sound financial planning and practices including operating the Association within the annual budget; Increasing public awareness and approval of the Association through public relations efforts, public speaking engagements and marketing activity in the industry. Qualifications and Experience To be successful, the next Executive Director of GBTA will need to have a combination of global leadership experience in either a travel-related corporation; a technology-focused corporation, association or nonprofit organization, and/or state and federal government relations expertise. Specific qualifications include: Bachelor?s degree required. Graduate degree and/or equivalent credentials or work experience preferred. Experience in leading an organization during a turnaround period. Experience as an Executive Director having worked in a similar size organization preferred. At least ten years of experience in a senior leadership role with global scope preferred. Experience with governance in a nonprofit association. Proven track record of organizational success in senior management, handling multiple goals; staff management and board interaction. Experience in managing people. Traditional and Digital marketing experience. Public Relations trained and experienced. NOTES: Additional Salary Information: The projected compensation range and benefits for this position will be $300,000+ annually, competitive with industry leading non-profit organizations and in accordance with the background and experience of the selected candidate.
