Electra is a new aerospace company headquartered -in Northern Virginia and we're on a quest to build a team of insanely talented people who want to do meaningful work. -Job Description -Electra is seeking an Avionics/Electrical Engineer to support the development and testing of avionics and electrical systems of our hybrid-electric aircraft. This position focuses on design, prototyping, integration, and testing and as such is nominally based in Manassas, Virginia. -Responsibilities & Essential Functions

  • Work towards electrically integrating all relevant aircraft systems and components: aircraft avionics (computing), effector controls, flight telemetry, power generation, electric propulsion, battery monitoring and control.
  • Understand program objectives and requirements to conduct trade studies and define architectures, requirements, and interfaces between systems.
  • Select and interface with suppliers and provide technical input (mass, performance, risk) to the program team to support selection.
  • Prepare and present at gated design reviews to demonstrate the adequacy of the design.Qualifications & Required Skills - - - - - -Required:
    • 5+ years experience in relevant discipline areas.
    • Experience with the aircraft development process and familiarity with aircraft systems.
    • Hands-on experience with avionics and aircraft electrical systems.
    • Proven experience with designing, fabricating, integrating, and testing wire harnesses.
    • Hands-on experience with integrating actuators, sensors, and computing platforms.
    • Experience with implementing and troubleshooting digital communications architectures (i.e. RS422, CAN, Ethernet, and ARINC429).
    • Proficient with general-purpose test and build -equipment/tools (oscilloscope, multimeter, soldering iron).
    • A strong work ethic and ability to independently meet and lead the areas described by the responsibilities and essential functions.
    • Quick and positive response to change, ability to multitask. Focus on the output rather than the number of hours spent at work. Willingness to work across time zones. - - - - - -Desired:
      • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related discipline preferred; advanced degree in a related discipline is an plus.
      • Experience with grounding schemes for large and complex electrical systems.
      • Experience with troubleshooting electromagnetic interference issues (EMI).
      • Experience with troubleshooting and designing PCBs.
      • Experience in embedded programming, C/C++ and Linux systems.
      • Experience with standard general aviation instrumentation/flight decks (i.e. Garmin/Avidyne).
      • Experience with FAA experimental airworthiness and -Part 23 aircraft certification.
