The Fredericksburg District Location & Design Section seeks an
individual that will be responsible for designing, managing and
producing Right of Way and Construction Roadway Plans for a wide
range of transportation projects using computer design software.
Duties include, but are not limited to:--- producing design
deliverables in accordance with VDOT and AASHTO standards,
specifications, policies, and procedures--- completing design tasks
to deliver high quality design plans in accordance with the VDOT
Project Development Process--- computing quantities and preparing
construction estimates--- conducting peer reviews and ensuring that
project documents/deliverables are reviewed for correctness,
completeness, and readability prior to submission--- maintaining
clear and concise documentation of all technical decisions---
completing roadway design tasks utilizing MicroStation, GEOPAK and
OpenRoads Designer software--- developing estimates using VDOT
software packages, including PCES and PreCon--- communicating and
coordinating with exemplary customer service for both internal and

VDOT is an emergency response agency, therefore you will work
outside of normal work hours during emergency operations when
services are needed.

Minimum Qualifications:--- Experience in roadway design criteria,
construction methods, standards, specifications and materials.---
Experience applying civil engineering principles as they relate to
roadway design and standard design technical knowledge.---
Experience applying design standards, specifications, policies and
procedures.--- Knowledge of principles of roadway safety that
impact roadway standards and special designs.--- Ability to plan
and schedule work.--- Ability to communicate effectively orally and
in writing with diverse audiences.--- Skill in building networks
and relationships with employees, field personnel, contractors,
manufacturers and FHWA representatives.--- Skill in delivering
exemplary customer service--- Skill in the use of computers and
software applications to include engineering and design
Preferred qualifications:--- BS in Civil Engineering or related
field preferred; equivalent experience and training may substitute
for degree.--- Engineering in Training (EIT)--- Experience in
roadway design and project management for transportation
projects--- Experience in construction cost estimates for roadway
projects.---Experience in roadway design applying design standards
and technical knowledge.
