Summary:The Wastewater Systems Technician Apprentice participates in a two-part training program consisting of classroom related instruction and on-the-job training (OJT). Apprenticeship related instruction classes are designed to complement OJT. The apprenticeship program is a two-year program, upon successful completion the apprentice will be required to obtain the Virginia Class 3 Wastewater Works Operator License.Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Perform work under the direct supervision of another Technician, Supervisor or Manager.Effectively communicates by asking questions, seeking answers, information sharing and listening.Works closely with other Technicians on daily work assignments, projects and tasks.Operate an AlexRenew vehicle as required observing legal and safe defensive driving practices.Employs safe behaviors in all assigned tasks, actively promotes safe behaviors and health awareness at all times in the execution of daily tasks.Satisfactory performance throughout apprenticeship training, in both academics and OJT, is required to remain in an apprenticeship position.Apprentice shall be punctual and regular in attendance with proper conduct, to pursue the training with diligence at all times, endeavoring with utmost ability to attain perfection in the practice of the trade.Perform other duties as required.Qualification Requirements:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Education and/or Experience:High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) equivalent required.Ability to work rotating 12-hour day and night shifts.Possess and maintain a valid driver's license required.Demonstrates a basic understanding of tools, equipment and materials, as well as basic mathematics and computer usage.Ability to assist in preventative maintenance and repairs to a variety of equipment.Possess ability to develop working knowledge of AlexRenew's information technology systems.Possess ability to read, write and interpret engineering data and drawings.Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.Ability to work as an effective team member.Support AlexRenew values of integrity and ethics, mutual appreciation and respect, and drive-passion of purpose.Physical Demands:The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. A detailed Physical Demands Analysis is available in Human Resources and a copy will be provided to all incumbents in this position.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and stand for nine hours a day. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 48 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 82 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include depth perception, near and far acuity, color and field of vision. The employee would be required to constantly communicate with management and coworkers, and to listen for emergency sirens and alarms.Work Environment:The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.While performing the duties of this job, the employee performs work indoors in a climate controlled environment, with outdoor trips between buildings and some outdoor work required. Some areas of plant are hot and humid at times.
