Job Description:
Job Description Job Description Summary As a key member of a
classroom team, the Assistant Teacher helps to execute the
day-to-day classroom operations, striving for a safe and fun
learning experience daily, following the Lead Teacher's direction
and lesson plans. This is a part-time, contract position. Hours are
8:45am to 1:15pm Monday through Friday. Duties Work with children
·Develops and nurtures warm connections with children. ·Experience
caring for children ages 2 to 4 years of age including toileting,
transitioning between activities, assisting with learning
activities and basic care routines. ·Has understanding of
developmentally appropriate practice and play-based curriculum
·Understanding of developmental milestones, social emotional
development and fostering independence. Admin/Staff ·Supports the
Lead Teacher with implementing the daily schedule including
diapering and toileting, feeding, transitioning between activities,
assisting with learning activities and basic care routines.
·Maintains positive working relationships with staff within the
teaching team and throughout school. ·Maintains confidentiality of
children, families and co-workers. ·Assist in preparing the
classroom before children arrive with various duties such as
furniture and toy set up and clean up at the end of the day,
including washing toys and wiping down hard surfaces. ·Shares
observations related to growth and development of children with the
Lead Teacher ·Flexible and willing to work in different classrooms
and administrative tasks as needed. Requirements Must be 18 years
of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent. Be "Not
guilty of an offense as defined in 63.2-1719 of the Code of
Virginia." "Staff shall be of good character and reputation,
capable of carrying out assigned responsibilities; capable of
accepting training and supervision; and capable of communicating
effectively both orally and in writing as applicable to the job
responsibility." (22 VAC 40-185-180.B) Pass state required
background checks according Virginia regulations, submit required
annual health and TB screen forms, as well as pass the annual
Mandated Reporter training and the 10-hour Virginia DSS Preservice
Training (due first day of employment) and the VaDSS Health and
Safety class and COVID class - both online Complete 16 hours of
professional development relating to early childcare safety,
development, and the function of the school as approved by the
Preschool Director (Only 2 hours of CPR/1st Aid certification
counts toward the required 16 hours, and MAT/EMAT training and does
not count at all) Carry out assigned responsibilities; lifting,
bending and ladder use is required Work collaboratively with all
colleagues Multi-task, organize and prioritize duties and projects
Be detail-oriented and flexible Nice To Haves Bachelor's degree in
education, nursing or recreation; experience plus education maybe
substituted based upon 8VAC20-780-210 Benefits One day of paid
leave for every twenty days worked. Paid holidays and breaks
(winter and Easter). Option to work summer camp for summer 2026
