Overview:--

The American Society of Travel Advisors is seeking an experienced travel industry professional who has worked in or in support of the travel agency and advisor industry. This emerging industry leader will lead the adoption, growth, and development of travel advisor education within the travel industry from a leisure and corporate travel perspective. The individual will also manage the onboarding and care for the needs and growth of ASTA's Future Travel Professional, Travel School Memberships, and other higher learning/education entities (e.g., colleges and universities, etc.).--



As an essential member of ASTA's Membership Team, the individual will possess a keen focus on the needs of both current and future travel advisors, working closely with ASTA's Education Department to ensure ASTA's education and training pillars are fully optimized, extended to institutions and students and executed in a manner that benefits ASTA, ASTA members and the industry. This role is pivotal in establishing ASTA as The trusted source for advisor education and programs both advisors and the consumer can trust. Success will be measured by adopting educational coursework and programs by industry partners, including agencies, Hosts, Consortia, and others within the agency space, as well as colleges and universities. The role will also be responsible for growing membership in trusted Travel Schools and Future Travel Professionals. This position will join the ranks of many reputational caretakers for the Society by enhancing one-on-one engagement through social media channels and online industry communities.--



This is a new position for ASTA. The Director must have an entrepreneurial spirit and approach, being able to independently coordinate efforts internally and externally, as well as throughout multiple components of the industry. The ability to work effectively and collaboratively with internal departments is a must, and managing programs and projects independently.--



The company is based in Alexandria, VA, but this position is open to remote and hybrid employment.

Responsibilities:
--- Package and sell educational programs, coursework, and related certification initiatives to agencies, travel management companies (TMCs), host agencies, consortia, institutions of higher learning such as colleges and universities, and other entities. The focus is on serving the industry's needs, revenue generation, and maintaining the Association's strong reputation.
--- Set membership standards for travel schools and coordinate efforts across the industry to ensure consistency and quality. Work closely with industry partners and stakeholders to ensure collaboration and industry needs are being met.
--- Transform the ASTA Travel Career Center job board into a trusted membership tool that locates talent for member agencies and others while serving as a revenue-generating platform for ASTA.
--- Service consortia and host agencies that purchase training/education/certification, ensuring their needs are met and expectations exceeded while protecting the integrity of ASTA education/certification.
--- Manage the education sales pipelines, working with Marketing to drive program growth and revenue generation.
--- Explore, develop, and execute methods for ASTA's local chapter network to support ASTA's education programs.
--- Create new ways for external institutes of higher learning, Travel Schools, Host Agencies, and Future Travel Professional Members to participate in the ASTA Travel Advisor Conference, bringing new members and industry stakeholders together to learn and engage.
--- Serve as a bridge between the Industry Affairs & Education and Membership teams, advising on relevant resources, needs, and opportunities.
--- Provide guidance to the membership team to ensure membership categories remain relevant and current.
--- Advise on the development of resources to enhance education and industry affairs efforts.
--- Onboard new advisor members, assessing their needs and guiding them towards appropriate ASTA education and certification opportunities.
--- Manage external social interactions on social media platforms, ensuring active engagement with members and the industry at large.
--- Support ASTA Membership Department initiatives, including the Membership Advantage Program development and others as deemed necessary.
--- Represent ASTA through presentations, onstage appearances, and tradeshows.
--- Must be able to multi-task and work on initiatives of importance to the Association when required; for example, may be called upon to play a variety of hands-on roles at various ASTA events throughout the year.

Qualifications:
--- 5-10+ years of experience in the travel industry, preferably within or adjacent to the travel agency/advisor community.
--- Comprehensive understanding of current educational offerings and certifications within the industry.
--- College degree preferred.
--- Ability to travel 25-40% or more of the time.
--- This position is open to both remote and hybrid employment.
--- Proficient in project management, training & education, sales, marketing, and social media management.
