Job Description:
The American Public Power Association (APPA) is looking for a
Staff Accountant to support the Accounting Manager with maintaining
the general ledger accounts and business transactions of the
organization while applying Generally Accepted Accounting
Principles (GAAP). This position is also responsible for all
accounts receivable related functions as well as serving as the
System Administrator of the time and attendance system for APPA.
Please note: This is not a remote position. Candidates must be in
the DC, Maryland, or Virginia area. APPA offers a flexible work
schedule for full-time employees, and the option for telework is
available after 2 months of employment (with supervisor approval).
DutiesRecords daily cash postings and reconcile the bank and
settled credit card transactions.Researches overpayments and report
find to facilitate adjustments or refund requests.Manages inquiries
regarding payments and invoices for internal and external
customers. Reviews and approves new Items available for sale in
Salesforce. Manages, prepares, and reconciles large volumes of data
in Excel for multiple meeting revenue schedules, including
sponsorship revenue and deferred revenue from data in salesforce
reports.Monitors accounts receivable aging including appropriate
follow-up with members to ensure timely collection.Processes
quarterly bad debt write-offs.Maintains and updates compliance
schedule report and follow up with team on upcoming regarding
overdue accounts.Prepares journal entries, analyses, and general
ledger account reconciliations.Performs monthly expense accruals
and salary/benefit allocations.Performs monthly reconciliation of
assigned general ledger accounts.Records monthly fixed asset
depreciation and amortization of prepaid expensesRecords adjusting
and reclassification journal entries.Performs interim and annual
fixed asset inventory.Assists with preparation of the annual
budget.Assists with the preparation of financial statements in
accordance with GAAP.Prepares and files quarterly Canadian GST/HST
Tax and Sales & Use Tax returns. Performs year-end audit
reconciliations.Performs other duties as assigned. Timesheet
AdministratorCoordinates system maintenance and upgradesProvides
system training and onboarding of new staff.Reviews and approves
bi-weekly timesheets for all staff.Prepares semi-monthly upload of
staff PTO balances. Monitors and updates user profiles.Performs PTO
balance audit for payroll and benefit administration.Maintains and
updates PTO accrual calculator and APPA approved holiday
schedule.Creates ad-hoc time and attendance reports.Bachelor's
degree in Accounting or Finance required. Three to five years of
relevant job experience.Requires knowledge of GAAP. Proficiency
with Sage Intacct, Word, and Excel.Knowledge of Salesforce software
preferred.Ability to maintain a high level of
confidentiality.Requires accuracy and attention to detail.Ability
to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Strong organizational
and analytical skills.Strong written and oral communication
skills.Requires the ability to work independently on assigned
duties and must be able to work with minimum supervision on special
